The Brussels office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes Flavia Distefano as a partner in its antitrust, competition, and trade regulation practice. Distefano arrives at K&L Gates from McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP, where she headed the firm’s European competition practice. She is the first partner addition to the office since its establishment in February of this year, and joins a 60-lawyer competition team worldwide.

With a focus on cartel investigations, other antitrust behavioral issues, and merger control, Distefano has substantial experience advising clients across various industry sectors on a broad range of competition issues.  These have included the representation of multi-national companies in landmark cases before the European Commission and the Italian competition authority, including phase II merger cases and cartel proceedings. She also has significant experience litigating before the European Courts in Luxembourg.

Having practiced in Brussels now for more than 15 years, Distefano offers particular experience in the energy, chemicals and metals industries. She regularly counsels companies and trade associations on specific sector-related antitrust and regulatory compliance issues arising from the EU energy liberalization and climate change packages, REACH, and other EU environmental legislation.
