Leading Antitrust Partner Joins Latham & Watkins in Brussels

Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Sven Völcker will join the firm’s Brussels office as a partner in the Litigation Department. Völcker’s broad practice encompasses counseling on EU antitrust rules, merger clearance, cartel and other behavioural cases.Völcker’s stature as one of the leading merger control practitioners in Brussels reflects 17 years of practice at the highest levels. He has advised on a number of major, cross-border M&A matters and multi-jurisdictional cartel and abuse of dominance cases. He has particularly deep experience in a range of industries, including aviation, high technology, software and financial services. He is also an experienced litigator before the EU Courts in Luxembourg.

Last week, Latham & Watkins announced that partner Lars Kjølbye will be joining the Brussels office. Kjølbye is a leader in complex conduct cases, and in particular energy and high technology antitrust, and brings to Latham deep EC credentials, previously serving in a variety of key roles at DG-Competition. Völcker and Kjølbye are leaders in the field and their joining Latham represents a significant expansion of the firm’s European practice and deepening of its market-leading global capabilities.

Völcker received his doctorate degree in jurisprudence, magna cum laude, from Bonn University in 1994 and an LLM from Harvard in 1996. He was recently appointed as an Honorary Professor at Göttingen University.
