Dr. Hladjk counsels multinational clients across various industry sectors on all aspects of global, European, and German cybersecurity and data protection laws. With more than 10 years of experience in this field, he advises on a wide range of activities, including global and pan-European compliance strategies for international data transfers; managing notification procedures with national data protection authorities across the EU; developing data protection compliance programs; and assisting clients with data security breaches. Dr. Hladjk also undertakes privacy impact assessments for emerging technologies and implements appropriate compliance solutions. In addition, he represents clients in contentious privacy and data protection matters.

He has well-established contacts with the European Commission and the European Parliament, and served as a Legal Expert to the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, contributing to an EU roundtable on data protection and data security in the context of the trilogue negotiations on the upcoming EU General Data Protection Regulation. He is also Chair of the Advisory Board of "Trust in Digital Life", an international association composed of major players in the IT and telecommunications industry, as well as leading research institutions.
"We are very pleased to have Jörg Hladjk take the lead of our Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection Practice in Brussels," said Bernard Amory, Partner-in-Charge of the Brussels Office. "More than ever, clients are in need of knowledgeable and practical guidance from experienced practitioners like Jörg, particularly in view of a new, evolving legal framework in Europe and heavy sanctions in case of violation."
"Jörg Hladjk's broad-based skills in both EU and national issues will further enhance the Firm's ability to respond to the complex and multifaceted nature of cybersecurity and data protection issues confronting businesses on a global scale," said Daniel McLoon, leader of the Firm's global Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection Practice. "Based in Brussels, the hub of EU legislative activity, Jörg will play a key role in our European practice and joins a team of more than 80 lawyers in Jones Day offices worldwide who support this multidisciplinary practice."
Dr. Hladjk is a graduate of Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Law School, where he also earned a Ph.D. in Data Protection Law and wrote "Online Profiling and Data Protection – taking the automotive industry as an example," which won the academic prize for best dissertation by the German association for data protection and data security. He also holds an LL.M. in Computer and Communications Law from the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), Queen Mary University of London.
