Shearman & Sterling Elects New Antitrust Partner

5th June 2017

Shearman & Sterling has elected Elvira Aliende Rodriguez to the partnership in its Brussels office.

Previously counsel in the firm's antitrust practice in Brussels, Elvira focuses on EU competition law with particular experience and market reputation in EU cartel investigations and follow-on damages actions. She has defended clients before the European Commission in some of the most high-profile cartel cases in recent years, including in financial sector cartel investigations such as CHF LIBOR.  She also recently successfully secured a significant victory on behalf of Cargolux Airlines International SA, in an important appeal case before the European General Court in Luxembourg.

"Elvira is an outstanding lawyer and we are delighted to welcome her to the partnership," said Creighton Condon, Shearman & Sterling's Senior Partner. "We look forward to her continued contributions to the success of our clients and our firm."

Elvira joined Shearman & Sterling in 2011 as a senior associate in the Brussels office and was promoted to counsel in January 2016. She has extensive experience advising clients on all aspects of EU competition law including cartel, merger control and abuse of dominance investigations, follow-on damages claims and State aid rules.  Elvira advises clients across a range of sectors, including air and maritime transport, energy, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and financial services.

"Elvira is highly regarded by the firm's clients and an integral part of our European antitrust practice,” added Matthew Readings, Global Head of Antitrust Practice. “This is great news for her and our clients who will benefit from the added partner capability in our Brussels office.”
