Life Sciences Partner Genevieve Michaux Joins King & Spalding in Brussels

1st October 2019

King & Spalding announced that Genevieve Michaux has joined the firm as a partner to focus on regulatory issues in the life sciences industry. She will be based in Brussels, where the firm is opening an office, and will work closely with the Paris office.

Michaux focuses on European Union (EU) and national (French and Belgian) food and drug law with an emphasis on regulatory issues associated with drugs, biologics, medical devices, cosmetics and food. She joins the firm from Mayer Brown and obtained her law degree (magna cum laude) from the Universite Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium and her L.L.M. degree from Harvard Law School. She is fluent in French, English and Dutch.

“Genevieve’s expansive knowledge of regulatory issues in the life sciences sector, particularly her European and EU-related focus, further enhances our ability to advise clients globally on their most important life sciences matters,” said Wick Sollers, head of the Government Matters practice. “The opening of the Brussels office, and addition of widely-recognized experts like Genevieve, continues the expansion of our EU platform for the firm’s life sciences practice, as well as for our International Trade practice.”

The Brussels office is the firm’s 21st globally and will initially focus on international trade, FDA and life sciences matters. Earlier in the summer, King & Spalding added to its ranks Brussels-based partner Marie-Sophie Dibling and former European Commission official Hervé Jouanjean, who held numerous senior positions in the body, and today welcomes Michaux as a partner in the firm’s Government Matters practice.

“Brussels is a global hub for international trade and regulatory practices. Our presence there will be an important part of a strategic axis between the U.S. and several of our international offices, in particular London, Geneva, Paris and Frankfurt,” said Robert Hays, Chairman of King & Spalding. “The Brussels office will work closely with our highly-ranked trade and regulatory team which has recently seen the return of Stephen Vaughn, former general counsel of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and Zack Harmon, former chief of staff at the FBI.”

“King & Spalding has excellent credentials when it comes to food and life sciences, both in the U.S. and Europe, and I look forward to collaborating with colleagues around the world,” Michaux added. “I am joining the firm at an exciting time and it is great to be part of the new Brussels office alongside Marie-Sophie and Hervé.”
