Antitrust Expansion for Simmons & Simmons in Brussels
27th June 2022
International law firm Simmons & Simmons has today announced a further expansion to its European network, with the hire of Alejandro Guerrero. Competition and antitrust specialist Alejandro has joined the firm’s Brussels office as a partner on 27 June.
Alejandro has been with Gibson Dunn & Crutcher in Brussels for the last decade, where he became of counsel in 2019 and further developed his practice to encompass merger investigations, cartel enforcement and antitrust investigations. He advises clients across a broad number of sectors, with a particular focus in tech and in consumer goods industries. Furthermore, Alejandro has advised numerous clients with their licensing, distribution and cooperation agreements with dealers and business partners.
In addition to competition law, Alejandro also developed a data protection and GDPR compliance practice, advising and representing clients before national authorities and courts.
Alejandro is dual qualified to practice law in both Belgium and Spain. He collaborates with numerous academic institutions and projects and was recently selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers ranking for his work in EU competition and antitrust law.
Alejandro will work closely with existing Brussels antitrust partner Koen Platteau, as well as colleagues in the firm’s international competition and antitrust network. He will also work with colleagues in our Madrid office, thus expanding the geographical reach of the firm’s competition and data protection practices.
Commenting on welcoming Alejandro to the team, Koen Platteau said: “Alejandro’s hire is a strategic move to bolster our competition bench strength out of Brussels, which has become an undisputed hub of the firm’s EU competition law practice post-Brexit. In addition, Alejandro’s sector focus positions us well in times when competition authorities and regulators increasingly focus on the tech sector.”
On joining Simmons in Brussels, Alejandro said: “I am excited to join Simmons when the EU antitrust team is poised for expansion. With my dual qualification to practice in both Belgium and Spain, I will be able to advise cross border clients and collaborate closely with Simmons’ international network to further build the firm’s capacity in the competition and data protection arenas.”
