Eversheds Sutherland Integrates Belgium Team
3rd May 2022
Eversheds Sutherland (International) announced today that it has further strengthened its position in continental Europe with the merger of its Brussels office into its International business.
The practice in Brussels has been a member of Eversheds Sutherland (Europe) for the past 12 years and the International firm will welcome the Brussels office’s six partners and 19 lawyers.
Alongside the team’s current specialisms, the integration of our colleagues in Brussels will also provide the opportunity to expand in other strategic areas, including specialist competition and anti-trust. The team already has a strong international client base in Europe with great synergies across the firm’s global office network.
Senior office partners Stefan Corbanie and Koen Devos have driven strong growth in the Brussels office over the last few years and they will continue to lead the office. Stefan will take on the role of Senior Office Partner, and both Stefan and Koen will report to and continue to work closely with Helen Thomas, European Managing Partner, Eversheds Sutherland (International).
Keith Froud, Managing Partner, Eversheds Sutherland (International) commented:
“Aligning the team in Brussels with our International business will enable the firm to strengthen further our client offering in Europe, and across our global office network. The integration of the Brussels team supports our 2023 global strategy and we are delighted that Stefan and Koen and their highly rated team have chosen to join us.”
Helen Thomas, European Managing Partner, commented:
“Closer alignment with Brussels will be of lasting benefit to the firm. Our colleagues in Brussels are completely culturally aligned with the firm and our strategic direction, and share our vision across our purpose, values and our ambitious change programme. We are delighted to be able to work much more closely with them.”
Stefan Corbanie, Senior Office Partner, Belgium/Brussels, commented:
“The integration of our teams is a great opportunity to achieve swifter growth for our practice in Brussels and benefit from the International firm’s strategic investments, particularly those that will benefit our people and our clients. We look forward to working more closely with Helen and her team in Europe, and extending our reach across the important markets of Asia, the Middle East, the UK and the US.”
Integration with Brussels is also a continuation of the firm’s wider European investment strategy, following the merger with its German and Dutch practices in 2015 and 2018 respectively, the opening of its Luxembourg office in 2017 and the firm’s ongoing growth in Paris.
