Unless you are working in a private practice law office in Brussels as an employee (such as secondees from foreign offices), it is likely you are self-employed.
Initially, and completely justifiably, most non-Belgian lawyers are confused about what this self-employed status means.
Your client, your firm
Self-employed status raises a lot of questions about how you work. The simplest explanation of your professional situation is it is likely that your client is the law firm.
As confusing as that idea may sound, just accept this is the situation and consult your client about how you will work together.
